2018 Year in Review

Image
Warning: I'm a numbers guy... there's a lot of that in this post! Well, I posted a few months ago that I had already completed my resolution to paint 365 minis in 2018. At that time I set myself a stretch goal of 500 minis!!! Soooo how did I do on that one? Well... I didn't paint 500 minis from scratch in the year, but I completed 511 minis in 2018 and another 45 smaller pieces. A really healthy total I think. I feel like this year has taken me a long way toward getting back on top of that lead mountain. There is still a lot to do but I honestly think that I could be realistically on top of things by the end of 2019 if I continue with the same mindset. Carry over: (22 + 11 small) Space Hulk:  6xTerminators Mansions of Madness:  2xShoggoths, 2xCthonians, 1xDark Young, 1xDunwich Horror Blood Bowl:  Wood Elf & Chaos Apothecaries, Ball Marker Warhammer Underworlds:  Reaver 5xSpiteclaw Lady Morrigan Wander: Tank Misc: 10xBarrels Comple...

Descent Monsters painted

Honestly, I think this is one of my best achievements in painting to date. The models are far from well painted even by my lowly standards - Airbrushing has saved them a great deal but even so they're not stunning. Volume and speed are what set these out in my mind. 168 models is the most I have painted for any single thing so far and to have gotten them all done in about 3 months really feels great to look back on. Of course it's far too early to rest on my laurels as I still have all the heroes to tackle still but this has been a great exercise and really helped me with scale and speed of painting. - Raggy, signing out

365 minis painted in 2018!

I am super excited to be able to say I completed my goal of averaging a mini/day in 2018! It's been a fairly absorbing task and has left me largely unable to paint for competitions, it has however hammered into the mountain of unpainted minis (particularly for boardgames). So to keep moving forward, I have a new target - 500!!! This should also mean I will have fully painted 5 boardgames this year (Space Hulk, Burning of Prospero, Mansions of Madness, Descent & TMNT: Shadows of the Past). Completed: (369 + 34 small) Space Hulk:  20xSpace Hulk door stands, Chalice, C.A.T. , 23 Genestealers Mansions of Madness: Darrell Simmons, William Yorrick, Gloria Goldberg, Carolyn Fern, Joe Diamond, Monterey Jack, Bob Jenkins, Dexter Drake, Vincent Lee, Mandy Thompson, Sister Mary, Father Mateo, Tommy Muldoon, Diana Stanley, Finn Edwards, Preston Fairmont, Carson Sinclair, Charlie Kane, Agatha Crane, Lily Chen, Minh Thi Phan, Wilson Richards, Marie Lambeau, Akeche Onyele, Rita Yo...

The Descent!

Image
Hey Folks! It's been a while, but this hobbyist has not been idle. Coming off the warm-fuzzies of knowing that I'd worked through all the Mansions of Madness minis I have. I wanted to keep up the momentum. Slightly hindered by some business travel, I have still had an amazingly productive 2 weeks. 62 minis worth of productive in fact! I currently have 168 Descent monsters, so I've painted more than 1/3 of them in two weeks which feels great. Of course, as with the Mansions of Madness, I'd done all the prep and some fairly extensive airbrushing work to get a jump start on them. Best of all at 296 minis for the year so far - I'm ahead of my mini/day average at this point! I haven't really been taking the time to get step by steps on these models, but one of the things that I have been using these models to practice is drybrushing. Although the models lack detail, the detail they have is often quite exaggerated to make sure it carries in the casting pr...
